Monthly award winners for September announced!

Yesterday the East Japan Boxing Association announced their Monthly award winners for the Month of September, with 3 winners being announced in what was a really good month for Teiken, who promote 2 of the 3 winners.

The MVP for month was, arguably, the most obvious winner for the month as the newly crowned Japanese Minimumweight champion Ryusei Matsumoto (4-0, 2) [松本流星] was a clear cut winner following his September 25th demolition job on Katsuki Mori (12-4, 3) [森且貴]. The bout looked like a really good one on paper, but Matsumoto really did a number on Mori to announce himself as someone who can be fast tracked to the top. The 26 year old from Teiken had been a really good amateur but this performance saw him showing a very professional style and really impressing fans who, perhaps, weren’t as aware of him as they should have been.

Fellow Teiken fighter Mikito Nakano (11-0, 10) [中野幹士] was announced as the Fighting Spirit award winner, doubling up a good month for him which has seen him claimed his first professional title, with a stoppage over Filipino Bryx Piala (9-2, 3) on September 7th for the OPBF Super Featherweight title. The results wa sNakano’s biggest win since turning professional, and whilst he isn’t yet ready for a world title fight it was the sort of step in the right direction that he’s needed for a while after it seemed like his career was starting to stagnate just a touch.

The Newcomer for the month was Yushin Inba (8-2-1, 3) [印波優心] following his September 17th win over Ryota Shibuya (8-3-2, 2) [渋谷亮太]. The win was Inba’s first A class match, and sees him securing a top 15 Japanese domestic rankings.
