Matias set for Nov. 9 return against Ramirez

“Manny” Rodriguez also competes in a final eliminator against Jose Salas

Former IBF super lightweight champion Subriel Matias will look to bounce back from his second career defeat when he faces Roberto Ramirez atop a November 9th Puerto Rico vs Mexico PPV in Bayamon, PR.

Matias (20-2, 20 KO), previously among the most feared men in boxing, found himself outmaneuvered by Liam Paro last June in his second title defense. That unanimous decision loss reportedly marked the end of his relationship with Matchroom Boxing and his original trainer; he’ll compete under the tutelage of Nelson Adams Jr ahead of what Fresh Productions’ Juan Orengo hopes will be a March title shot.

He’s still no. 5 with the IBF and could find himself back in the title picture after Paro’s fight with mandatory challenger Richardson Hitchins.

Ramirez (26-3-1, 19 KO) has one of those records where the only names you’ll recognize have an L next to them. He dropped a 2013 split decision to 3-0 Carlos Ocampo, fell to 12-0-2 Abel Ramos three years later, then suffered a knockout loss to William Zepeda in 2020. He’s the kind of person Matias should maul.

The rest of the card is, for an unaffiliated PPV, pretty solid. Former IBF bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez (22-3, 13 KO) faces undefeated 22-year-old Jose Salas (15-0, 10 KO) in a final eliminator, Alfredo Santiago (15-2, 6 KO) looks to build off his upset of Angel Fierro against Pedro Campa (36-3-1, 24 KO), former super flyweight title challenger Jeyvier Cintron (12-1, 6 KO) faces Rashib Martinez (23-3-1, 11 KO) in his second fight since a nearly half-decade layoff, and Abimael Ortiz (10-1-1, 5 KO) ends a lengthy sit on the sidelines against former MJ Akhmadaliev victim Kevin Gonzalez (27-1-1, 14 KO).
