When will Thomas Tuchel take over as England manager?

ENGLAND finally look to have their new manager in Thomas Tuchel – but when will the German officially take over?

The Three Lions have been without a permanent boss since the departure of Gareth Southgate following England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Lee Carsley took over as interim manager and has so far won three of his four Nations League matches, losing 2-1 to Greece in the other.

But there were doubts surrounding the former Everton player’s desire to stay on as England manager.

And in the meantime, the FA have acted swiftly to appoint Tuchel, who last managed Bayern Munich and England captain Harry Kane.

There’s one more international break in 2024, but will Tuchel be in place by the time it rolls around in November?

When will Thomas Tuchel take over as England manager?

Tuchel’s appointment is set to be announced as a news conference on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the BBC, Lee Carsley is set to remain as manager for the last two Nations League games against Greece and Republic of Ireland in November.

It’s also been said that Tuchel will officially take up his post as England boss on January 1, 2025.

His first match in charge will be in March when the first international break of 2025 takes place.

It’s not yet known who England will play in March, but there’ll be two friendlies, with one of those games likely to be held at Wembley Stadium.

Tuchel’s contract is set to be 18 months long, which will take him to the World Cup 2026 in USA, Canada and Mexico.

No manager has ever won a World Cup managing a country they aren’t from.

Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final after replacing Frank Lampard as manager four months earlier.
