JPR One hot favourite for Haldon Gold Cup as Joe Tizzard reckons he is in line for back-to-back victories in the race
JOE TIZZARD reckons he has found the One to give him back-to-back victories in tomorrow’s Haldon Gold Cup.
After landing the Grade 2 at Exeter 12 months ago with Elixir de Nutz, Tizzard, who won the race three times as a jockey, believes 15-8 fav JPR One can follow in his hoofprints.
It will be his first run since a wind op[/caption]And with the talented seven-year-old having won on each of his previous three seasonal returns, Tizzard, who will also run Scarface in the £100,000 prize, is confident he can extend his good record fresh.
The Dorset-based trainer said: “This race has long been pencilled in the calendar for him.
“We always thought it was a nice place for him to start his season off as it looks like the obvious race for him.
“He won his novice hurdle first time out at Exeter on his only other visit to the track so we know he handles the course.
“There are only a handful of runners in the race so it should be perfect for him.

“I’ve just been working him at home and he has not had an away day. Plenty of mine have been winning first time out and I’m confident he’s fit enough to do himself justice.”
With Elixir de Nutz subsequently tasting Grade 1 success in the Clarence House following his Haldon Gold Cup win Tizzard hopes JPR One can do likewise, but he is not getting ahead of himself just yet.
He added “I’ve not made any plans beyond this I just want to see how he gets on here first. I’m just hoping he’s still on an upward curve.”
Coral odds:
15-8 JPR One, 3 Djelo, 4 Etalon, 13-2 San Bruit, 8 Scarface, 14 Heltenham
