Sooners Lose in Wild Finish at Mizzou

Oklahoma's football team and Missouri combined for 34 fourth quarter points in a wild final period that ended with the Tigers beating the Sooners 30-23 at Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday.

Missouri's Zion Young returned a Jackson Arnold fumble 17 yards for a touchdown to give the Tigers the winning points with 22 seconds left.

Triston Newson caused the fumble on a sack, the third of the game for Missouri, and the fourth and final Sooner turnover of the game.

It capped a fourth quarter that had three turnovers, two defensive scores, and comebacks by both teams before it was over.

Neither team gained over 300 total yards, and Missouri had just 88 yards at halftime.

OU's Jackson Arnold was 15-for-24 for 74 yards passing, while Mizzou's Drew Pyne was 14-for-27 for 143 yards.

Both teams punted on their first possession, and Oklahoma fumbled on their second possession.

Jackson Arnold had the ball knocked out by Daylan Carnell and Johnny Walker recovered for the Tigers at the 50-yard line.

The Tigers had to punt it back to OU, then the Sooners appeared to be ready to punt back to Missouri.

OU faked it however, with punter Luke Elzinga passing to Bauer Sharp for a gain of 43 yards to the Mizzou 10.

Oklahoma had penalties and negative yards pushed them back and they had to settle for a 40-yard field goal from Zach Schmit on the first play of the second quarter to make it 3-0 Sooners.

Missouri's next possession ended with the Tigers going for it on 4th and 1 from their own 44.

OU's Billy Bowman knocked Luther Burden out of bounds for no gain and the Sooners took over on downs.

Arnold passed to Deion Burks for 14 yards with one second left, giving Zach Schmit time to kick a 56-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

Both teams could not produce any points on their first possessions of the second half.

Then Mizzou went 59 yards in 12 plays, with Drew Pyne passing to former Sooner Theo Wease for a 13-yard touchdown, putting the Tigers up 10-9 with 5:43 left in the third quarter.

Wease caught 4 passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Early in the fourth quarter, Missouri's Tre'Vez Johnson recovered a fumble by Deion Burks caused by Daylan Carnell and the Tigers had it at the OU 32-yard line.

Mizzou capitalized, as Drew Pyne passed to Brett Norfleet for a 5-yard touchdown.

The Tigers missed the extra point and led 16-9 with 8:47 to play.

Oklahoma marched to the tying score, and used a trick play to do it.

Running back Taylor Tatum passed back to Jackson Arnold for an 18-yard touchdown to tie the game at 16 with 3:18 left.

The Sooners' defense came up with a big play which appeared to be the potential game-winner.

Sammy Omosigho forced a fumble by Missouri's Jamal Roberts, and Billy Bowman scooped up the loose ball and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown to give OU the lead 23-16 with 2:00 to play.

Mizzou drove to the tying score, with Pyne passing to Wease again for a 10-yard touchdown to make it 23-23 with 1:03 to play, setting up the final dramatic defensive score.
