Morning Report: Leon Edwards hints at UFC London headlining spot in March

Leon Edwards already has plans for his first fight of 2025.

During Saturday’s Matchroom Boxing event at BP Pulse Arena in Edwards’ stomping grounds of Birmingham, England, Edwards was briefly interviewed on the broadcast and he revealed that he is set to headline UFC London on March 22.

“I’m back in March,” Edwards told DAZN. “March in London, at the O2. I’m headlining the O2, so I’m looking forward to it, to get my belt back and bring it back to Birmingham.”

It’s unclear if anything is set in stone for Edwards or if the former UFC welterweight champion is simply stating his intention to be one-half of the UFC London main event. Edwards most recently competed this past July at UFC 304 in Manchester, England, where he lost his title to Belal Muhammad via unanimous decision.

Prior to that loss, “Rocky” was on a 13-fight unbeaten streak that stretched back to May 2016, including two title fight wins against Kamaru Usman. He also successfully defended his title against Colby Covington in December 2023.

Given that Edwards was ringside to check out some boxing, it’s unsurprising he was asked if he’d attempt a crossover into the squared circle someday. According to Edwards, he’s already spoken to Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn about the possibility.

“A hundred percent, I said it to Eddie earlier, ‘Get me a fight,’” Edwards said. “Watching these fights, watching how hard the guys work, I’d love to one day cross over, test out my boxing skills. Hopefully.”
