Russell Martin SACKED by Southampton after shambolic Tottenham battering leaves them bottom of Premier League table

SOUTHAMPTON have sacked Russell Martin after a 5-0 home humiliation against Tottenham.

Martin led the Saints back to the Prem after taking charge in June 2023 – but they’ve got just five points in 16 games this season.

Many fans walked out when Spurs went 4-0 up after 25 minutes – with boos ringing round St Mary’s.

Southampton are bottom of the table, nine points from safety and with just a single win.

The Saints handed Martin a three-year contract extension in July 2024 – two months after beating Leeds 1-0 in the Championship play-off final.

But fans went on social medial to call for his head after Tottenham led 5-0 at the break in Sunday night’s mauling.

And although Southampton kept Spurs out after the break, they’ve now conceded a shocking 36 top-flight goals already this term.

Martin’s exit came on the day second-bottom Wolves axed manager Gary O’Neil.

The former MK Dons chief guided his second club Swansea to finishes of 15th and then 10th in the Championship.

Next came fourth place in the same division with Southampton – before a dreadful start to his first-ever Prem campaign.
