Scalvini relief for Atalanta and Italy after winning goal in 1-0 Roma victory

Atalanta and Italy can breathe a sigh of relief, as goalscorer Giorgio Scalvini was only withdrawn on precautionary grounds during the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Roma

The 22-year-old has had a rough time with injuries in the early stages of his career, having missed over 50 games of football over the last two seasons. His medical record includes a cruciate ligament tear, a dislocated shoulder and various other muscular injuries to his adductor and hamstring.

A heavily derailed 2025-26 campaign saw him feature for just 274 minutes across six Serie A appearances last season. Those numbers have already improved slightly in 2025-26, up to 348 minutes in the league, but he has still only managed five top-flight appearances this term and only two since mid-September.

Scalvini’s most recent start came on Saturday evening, featuring alongside Berat Djimsiti and Sead Kolasinac for Atalanta’s eventual 1-0 victory against Roma and former Dea head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. The centre-back scored the only goal of the game after 12 minutes, despite numerous protests from Roma

No major Scalvini concerns for Atalanta or Italy

There were concerns from the Atalanta camp, however, when Scalvini was withdrawn in the 59th minute.

Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday confirm that his substitution was on precautionary grounds, and that Scalvini was struggling with cramp rather than a new injury.

Kolasinac was also taken off before full-time on Saturday, and La Gazzetta claims that there are no major concerns regarding his condition either.
