Dickens Vs Cacace Launch Press Conference Quotes & Photos
World Championship Boxing lands in Dublin on Saturday March 14 when – on St Patrick’s Day weekend – Anthony Cacace challenges the champion Jazza Dickens for the WBA world super featherweight title at the 3Arena, live on DAZN.
Queensberry are back in the Irish capital with a bumper card that also features two IBO world title fights, with Dubliner Pierce O’Leary taking on Mark Chamberlain for the super lightweight belt and Jono Carroll going up against Colm Murphy at super featherweight.
We will also get to see the professional debuts of two elite Irish talents in heavyweight Adam Olaniyan and middleweight Bobbi Flood, both with huge reputations from the amateur ranks.
Today the Dublin cast convened at the Gibson Hotel in the city for the opening press conference and below is a selection of key quotes from the headline event.
Jazza Dickens
“Seamus Jazza O’Dickens was my name when I was here years ago then I went to Dubai so I had to change it. Now I am back and I am Seamus again. The respect is unbelievable and this feels like a homecoming to me, with everyone coming over from Liverpool. I am very, very blessed to be in this position.
“It is great to see Ireland thriving. Look at the city of Dublin and it is a shame that the boxing hasn’t been here when you’ve got the amateur clubs who have kept putting the work in. It has nearly been here time and again and now it is a great to see it back. I am very proud of the city and I class it as a second home to me.
“I am grateful to Frank Warren and Queensberry for getting it together here and I am grateful to my team and the high lord who has took me from nothing in life and made me champion of the world.
“I don’t feel nothing [about being upgraded from Interim champion], you can’t tell me I am not a world champion because I am. I am just like to fight, whether it is in an alleyway or for a world title. A fight is a fight, as soon as you get in the ring the belt has gone anyway and you’ve got to win it back anyway.
“I am very grateful to be sharing the ring with Anto and the pleasure is all mine to be sharing the ring with such a great champion.
Anthony Cacace
“Yeah it is crazy, winning one world title blew my mind. This is like a dream to me, to fight for another world title and become a two-time world champion. I respect Jazza, he is a great fighter and a good lad. I feel like I am fighting another Irish lad, I feel like he is from Dublin. Full respect to him, I can tell you all now that it is going to be an absolute war and a great fight.
“Just listening to him talking, he is very passionate and a holy man. I know he is a good fella as well and he is a great fighter. I think this is, easily, going to be my hardest fight to date. Jazza is a WBA world champion and that is something we all dream of.
“If I have to die in the ring, I’ll die. And I feel like Jazza is the exact same as me. It makes for an absolute war. We are going to give you all a night you will remember, 100%.”
