Jonathan Kuminga ruled out vs. Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS – The Warriors will begin their two-game series in Minneapolis critically undermanned on the wing

Jonathan Kuminga was ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Wolves, diagnosed with left knee soreness on the team’s official injury report. He tweaked both his knee and ankle on a drive with 4:28 left in Thursday’s 123-115 loss to the Mavericks.

Kuminga, 23, left the game a few moments later and did not return. With his departure, the Warriors were down both Kuminga and Jimmy Butler, who was recently lost for the season with an ACL tear.

It is not yet known if the injury will keep Kuminga out for multiple games.

After being a healthy scratch for over a month and requesting a trade after his Jan. 15 trade restriction passed, Butler’s injury forced coach Steve Kerr’s hand.

Kuminga was back in the rotation and thrived as a scorer, putting up 30 points in 30 minutes before exiting with his knee injury.

The Warriors are now down to Gui Santos, Buddy Hield, Will Richard and Gary Payton II on the wing. The team (25-21) has lost two consecutive games.
