A novel machine learning-based prediction method for patients at risk of developing depressive symptoms using a small data

by Minyoung Yun, Minjeong Jeon, Heyoung Yang

The prediction of depression is a crucial area of research which makes it one of the top priorities in mental health research as it enables early intervention and can lead to higher success rates in treatment. Self-reported feelings by patients represent a valuable biomarker for predicting depression as they can be expressed in a lower-dimensional network form, offering an advantage in visualizing the interactive characteristics of depression-related feelings. Barriers and facilitators to self-care practices for sexual and reproductive health among women of reproductive age

by Amit Timilsina, Buna Bhandari, Alexandra Johns, Subash Thapa

Introduction

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) have been promoted globally, yet sexual and reproductive health (SRH) interventions are seldom evaluated from the perspective of service users and service providers. Very little is known about whether and why various target groups including general women are (or are not) practicing SRH -related self-care practices. This study explored SRH self-care practices and... Читать дальше...

High-frequency enhanced VaR: A robust univariate realized volatility model for diverse portfolios and market conditions

by Wei Kuang

In the field of financial risk management, the accuracy of portfolio Value-at-Risk (VaR) forecasts is of critical importance to both practitioners and academics. This study pioneers a comprehensive evaluation of a univariate model that leverages high-frequency intraday data to improve portfolio VaR forecasts, providing a novel contrast to both univariate and multivariate models based on daily data. Existing research has used such high-frequency-based univariate models for index portfolios... Читать дальше...

Analytical methods for stable isotope labeling to elucidate rapid auxin kinetics in Arabidopsis thaliana

by Qian Tang, Molly Tillmann, Jerry D. Cohen

The phytohormone auxin plays a critical role in plant growth and development. Despite significant progress in elucidating metabolic pathways of the primary bioactive auxin, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), over the past few decades, key components such as intermediates and enzymes have not been fully characterized, and the dynamic regulation of IAA metabolism in response to environmental signals has not been completely revealed. In this study, we established... Читать дальше...

Combining sentiment analysis and text mining with content analysis of farm vet interviews on mental wellbeing in livestock practice

by Andrew J. Duncan, Madeleine K. Henry, Kate Lamont

Background

The aim of the How Farm Vets Cope project was to co-design, with farm veterinary surgeons, a set of web-based resources to help them and others deal with the different situations that they can face. As part of the wider project, participants were recruited for one-to-one semi-structured phone interviews. These interviews focused on elements of job satisfaction and how the participants coped during periods of poor mental wellbeing or with setbacks and failure. Читать дальше...

Surface plasmon resonance microscopy identifies glycan heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer cells that influences mucin-4 binding interactions

by Jesús S. Aguilar Díaz de león, Miyuki Thirumurty, Nguyen Ly

Membrane proteins are the main targets of therapeutic drugs and most of them are glycosylated. Glycans play pivotal roles in several biological processes, and glycosylation changes are a well-established hallmark of several types of cancer, including pancreatic cancer, that contribute to tumor growth. Mucin-4 (MUC-4) is a membrane glycoprotein which is associated with pancreatic cancer and metastasis, and it has been targeted as a promising vaccine candidate. Читать дальше...
