Star Health aims to double Gross Written Premium to Rs 30,000 cr in 4 yrs: MD

Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Ltd. has set a target to double its Gross Written Premium to about Rs 30,000 crore over the next four years. The company, based in Chennai, has recorded a profit after tax of Rs 845 crore, a 37% increase from the previous financial year. The company has approved claims of about Rs 44,000 crore since its inception in 2006.

Southwest Air adopts 'poison pill' as activist investor Elliott takes significant stake in company

Southwest Airlines has adopted a ‘poison pill’ following activist investor Elliott Investment Management taking a significant stake in the company. The airline said Wednesday that the shareholder rights plan is effective immediately and expires in a year. Southwest shareholders would need to approve any extension. Last month Elliott said it bought a $1.9 billion stake in the airline, which has struggled with operational and financial problems, and said it wanted to force out CEO Robert Jordan and change the board of directors.

Jailed radical preacher Amritpal likely to take oath as LS member on Jul 5

Jailed radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, who recently won the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seat in Punjab, is likely to take oath as Lok Sabha member on Friday. The chief of the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit, who is currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail along with nine associates under the National Security Act, has been granted a four-day parole to enable him to take oath, officials in Amritsar said.
