Doctors Without Borders says it has suspended some operations at one of Gaza's largest functioning hospitals after patients and staff said they witnessed armed, masked men in parts of the compound. The aid group said it suspended all noncritical medical operations at Nasser Hospital due to “security breaches” which posed “serious security threats to our teams and patients.” It was a rare announcement by an international organization about the presence of armed men in or near medical facilities in Gaza since the war began. Soaring coffee prices rewrite some Americans' daily routines

Rising coffee prices are changing how some Americans get their caffeine. Government data shows coffee prices were up nearly 20 percent in December from a year earlier and up almost 50 percent over five years. Though coffee is such an ingrained part of many java lovers' days, some consumers are cutting back on café visits, switching to cheaper brews or giving it up altogether. Chandra Donelson of Washington, D.C. is one of them. After years of daily visits to Starbucks, she has traded drinks that... Читать дальше...

Five European countries say tests confirm Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a lethal toxin, and they blame the Russian state. On Saturday, the U.K., France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands said labs analyzed samples from Navalny and found epibatidine. They described it as a toxin found in poison dart frogs in South America. Navalny died two years ago. The five countries say the evidence points to Russia. They say only the Russian state has the means and motive to carry out the attack. They also... Читать дальше...

In battleground Michigan, 3 Democrats test vision of affordability in the Senate primary

Voters say they're worried about the cost of living, and affordability is a leading issue in 2026 campaigns. The three Senate candidates competing in Michigan for the Democratic nomination are making different pitches about how to address rising costs. Their success or failure will help determine the party’s fortunes in the November midterms, when control of Congress is at stake. Democrat Gary Peters is retiring and the party's chances of regaining Senate control will be harder if that seat is lost. Читать дальше...

Hundreds of agents search for Nancy Guthrie as her case spotlights other families left behind

Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance highlights how differently police respond when a case draws national attention. On Thursday, officials keep searching the Tucson-area desert nearly two weeks after investigators say someone took her. Hundreds of agents and detectives are working the case. They are sifting through thousands of tips and asking residents to submit any surveillance footage they may have. The FBI doubled the reward this week for information in the case to $100,000. Meanwhile, other families... Читать дальше...

Rubio reassures somewhat on trans-Atlantic ties after a year of deepening differences with Europe

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has offered a reassuring message to America’s allies. He struck a less aggressive but still firm tone on Saturday about the Trump administration’s intent to reshape the trans-Atlantic alliance and push its priorities after more than a year of President Donald Trump’s often hostile rhetoric toward traditional allies. Rubio addressed the Munich Security Conference a year after Vice President JD Vance stunned the same audience with a harsh critique of European values. Читать дальше...

African Union summit opens as youth anger grows over a 'bloc of old leaders'

The African Union is holding its annual summit in Ethiopia as the organization faces widespread discontent. Leaders are meeting in Addis Ababa for the annual African Union summit over the weekend, as many African youth say the AU feels like ‘a bloc of old leaders’. Analysts say youth feel shut out while long-serving leaders dominate the bloc. Many point to rising poverty, coups, and protests tied to economic pain and aid cuts. Critics also say the AU often backs incumbents after disputed elections. Читать дальше...

Mandatory driver impairment sensors clear a funding hurdle, but are they ready?

A federal law requires new cars to include technology that detects drunk or impaired driving, but regulators still have not cleared it. Last month, the U.S. House rejected a Republican effort to strip the law’s funding. The law is named after five members of a Michigan family who were struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2019 in Kentucky. Supporters say passive detection can stop cars from starting when a driver is impaired. Opponents warn about false positives and call it a “kill switch.” Regulators... Читать дальше...
