An optimised protocol for the detection of lipofuscin, a versatile and quantifiable marker of cellular senescence

by Camilla S. A. Davan-Wetton, Trinidad Montero-Melendez

Lipofuscin is a yellow-brown pigment typically found in the lysosomes that contains a mixture of molecules including lipids, metals and misfolded proteins. The use of Sudan black B to detect lipofuscin accumulation, a well described marker of cellular senescence and ageing, was first described in 2013 by Georgakopoulou, et al. Here, we provide an optimisation of the original protocol. Firstly, we adjusted the staining methodology for increased ease of use on cultured cells. Читать дальше...

Sex differences in the association between sleep duration and muscle quality index in adults: A cross-sectional study from NHANES 2011–2014

by Bin Xu, MengNi Jiang, Yu Wei, Ran Duan, Feng Tong

Objective

The aim of this study was to investigate the association between sleep duration and muscle quality index (MQI) in middle-aged and older age groups, as limited evidence exists on this topic.

Methods

In order to assess the relationship between sleep duration and MQI, a cross-sectional study was undertaken, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) acquired during the period from 2011 to 2014. Читать дальше...

Spatiotemporal information enhanced multi-feature short-term traffic flow prediction

by Deqi Huang, Jiajia He, Yating Tu, Zikuang Ye, Lirong Xie

Accurately predicting traffic flow is crucial for optimizing traffic conditions, reducing congestion, and improving travel efficiency. To explore spatiotemporal characteristics of traffic flow in depth, this study proposes the MFSTBiSGAT model. The MFSTBiSGAT model leverages graph attention networks to extract dynamic spatial features from complex road networks, and utilizes bidirectional long short-term memory networks to capture... Spatial organisation within the earliest evidence of post-built structures in Britain

by Jessica Bates, Nicky Milner, Chantal Conneller, Aimée Little

This paper explores tool-using activities undertaken in and around the earliest known evidence of post-built structures in Britain. Microwear results associated with at least three structures identified at the Early Mesolithic site of Star Carr, North Yorkshire, are examined as a means of identifying activity zones associated with the diverse stone tools used to process a variety of materials (e.g. wood, bone, antler, plant, hide, meat, fish). Leveraging textual information for social media news categorization and sentiment analysis

by Mahmudul Hasan, Tanver Ahmed, Md. Rashedul Islam, Md. Palash Uddin

The rise of social media has changed how people view connections. Machine Learning (ML)-based sentiment analysis and news categorization help understand emotions and access news. However, most studies focus on complex models requiring heavy resources and slowing inference times, making deployment difficult in resource-limited environments. In this paper, we process both structured and unstructured data, determining the... Читать дальше...

Preliminary study of indocyanine green-guided laparoscopic lateral lymph node dissection for rectal cancer

by Chu-Ying Wu, Wen-Jin Zhong, Kai Ye

Background

LLNM can occur in mid-low rectal cancer, but LLND in patients with rectal cancer presents certain challenges. Recent years have seen the progressive application of ICG fluorescence imaging technology in colorectal surgery. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of ICG-guided laparoscopic LLND for rectal cancer.

Methods

We applied ICG-guided laparoscopic lateral lymph node dissection in 11 patients diagnosed as rectal cancer with lateral lymph node metastasis. Читать дальше...

Impact of pole dancing on mental wellbeing and sexual self-concept: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis

by Xizi Li, Jianyu Shen, Kai Cui, Ying Wang

Background

Despite the recognized psychological benefits of traditional dance forms, the impact of newer forms, such as pole dancing, on mental well-being and sexual self-concept remains underexplored. This protocol outlines a systematic review and meta-analysis aimed at elucidating the effects of pole dancing, a burgeoning non-pharmacological intervention, on these dimensions of mental health.

Methods

This systematic review was registered in the PROSPERO. Читать дальше...
