Family members of 1998 Utah murder victim want 'an eye for an eye'

Family members of a woman killed in a 1998 murder are pressing Utah officials to carry on with the perpetrator’s scheduled Aug. 8 execution. Relatives of Claudia Benn offered emotional testimony about the crime on Tuesday. They said it still traumatizes their close-knit Native American community. Inmate Taberon Dave Honie testified Monday that he wasn’t in his “right mind” when he killed his girlfriend’s mother after a day of heavy drinking and drug use. He asked the five-member parole board to commute his sentence to life in prison.

A very strong quarter at General Motors is overshadowed by potential headwinds for industry

U.S. customers who bought a new General Motors vehicle last quarter paid an average of just under $49,900, a price that helped push the company’s net income 15% above a year ago. And despite analyst predictions of growing U.S. inventories for the industry and bigger discounts reducing prices, GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said he doesn’t see his company cutting prices very much.
