Single-cell analysis of VACV infection reveals pathogen-driven timing of early and late phases and host-limited dynamics of virus production

by Liam Michael Howell, Nicholas Peter Gracie, Timothy Peter Newsome

The extent and origin of variation in the replication dynamics of complex DNA viruses is not well-defined. Here, we investigate the vaccinia virus (VACV) infection cycle at the single-cell level, quantifying the temporal dynamics of early and post(dna)-replicative phase gene expression across thousands of infections. We found that viral factors determine the initiation time of these phases, and this is influenced by the multiplicity of infection (MOI). Читать дальше...

Adult-onset asthma morbidity and related economic costs in middle age due to intentional chronic absenteeism in high school: An epidemiologic study using the national longitudinal survey of youth 1979 data

by Zongqiang Liao, Neville Francis, Kevin Brooks

Objective

Many authors examined the individual and societal impact of school absenteeism. Nevertheless, no empirical study has looked at the potential direct correlation between deliberate school absences and chronic illnesses in mid-adulthood. Our goal is to investigate any potential direct links between purposeful school absences and adult-onset asthma in middle age, as well as measure any associated costs of asthma.

Transportation infrastructure and economic growth: Evidence from "new nighttime light data" in the Yangtze River Delta

by Chunfang Huang, Hai Zhu, Meng Su

The enhancement and improvement of China’s high-speed rail network plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable economic growth in the region. By utilizing "new nighttime light data" in China’s Yangtze River Delta from 2003 to 2018, this paper investigates the impact of HSR on economic growth using a multiperiod difference-in-differences (DID) model. The operations of high-speed rail have a significant and positive impact on economic growth, which often... Читать дальше...

Is the coupling and coordination of economic, social and environmental development crucial to the governance of relative poverty?

by Wei Huang, Shuhui Gao, Peiqi Hu, Yue Han, Shiyu Ding

As the primary goal of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), poverty eradication is still one of the major challenges faced by countries around the world, and relative poverty is a comprehensive poverty pattern triggered by the superposition of economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Therefore, Therefore, this paper introduces the perspective of coupled coordination to consider the formation of relative poverty, constructs indicators in three major dimensions... Читать дальше...

A miniaturized ultra-wideband filter with high rejection and selectivity based on dual-notch bands

by Mingming Gao, Ya He, Jingchang Nan, Zhenzhi Yang, Congying Wang

A novel compact and highly selective Ultra Wide Band (UWB) filter is proposed using multimode resonator (MMR) technology. To begin with, the filter’s ultra-wideband performance is achieved by coupling a stepped-triangular multimode resonator with input-output feedlines. Furthermore, dual-notch band characteristics are realized at 6.80 GHz and 9.82 GHz, employing asymmetric coupled lines and the split ring resonator (SRR) methods. Читать дальше...

Intergenerational effects of ocean temperature variation: Early life benefits are short-lived in threespine stickleback

by Helen Clare Spence-Jones, Carla M. Pein, Lisa N. S. Shama

Current climate change models predict an increase in temperature variability and extreme events such as heatwaves, and organisms need to cope with consequent changes to environmental variation. Non-genetic inheritance mechanisms can enable parental generations to prime their offspring’s abilities to acclimate to environmental change–but they may also be deleterious. When parents are exposed to predictable environments, intergenerational... Читать дальше...
