Association between blood total mercury and psoriasis: The NHANES 2005–2006 and 2013–2014: A cross-sectional study

by Yanan Tuo, Yali Li, Tao Guo

An inflammatory skin condition called psoriasis results from immune system interactions that are out of balance. Reactive oxygen species are produced as a general mechanism of mercury toxicity. This study aimed to determine whether there was an association between blood total mercury and psoriasis in US adults. Utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005–2006 and 2013–2014. NHANES is a national research survey program... Читать дальше...

Efficacy of wooden toy training in alleviating cognitive decline in elderly individuals with cognitive impairment: A cluster randomized controlled study

by Qiuping Cheng, Hanqian Wang, Mengni Cui, Qunlong Wang, Lu Li

Background

With the increasing global aging population, the health and welfare of elderly individuals, especially individuals with prevalent mild cognitive impairment (MCI) living in nursing homes, have become critical concerns. These concerns highlight the urgency of developing effective interventions to address the cognitive and psychological needs of elderly individuals, ensuring their well-being and alleviating the burden on their caregivers. The research of knowledge diffusion network model for Tourism Destination-Public ecological civilization

by Jiehua Xu, Peng Peng, Dongping Wei, Zhijun Deng

Visitor education plays a crucial role in the knowledge diffusion process in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. It entails sharing information, experiences, and insights with visitors to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the natural environment. How much is too much: A case study of local self-government units in Slovakia using absolute variability to determine the importance of financial criteria in MCDM analysis

by Roman Vavrek

The performance evaluation of local self-government entities is very difficult, as their primary goal is not to make a profit, but to provide services to their residents that will contribute to an increase in their quality of life. In this context, it is necessary to evaluate their activity from the point of view of several available criteria, for which it is possible to find relevant and recognized sources. The presented research works with five criteria, identified by the Institute for Economic and Social Reforms... Читать дальше...

Simultaneous confidence interval construction for many-to-one of proportion ratios of bilateral correlated data

by Zhaoqi Zhang, Chang-Xing Ma

In ophthalmology and otolaryngology, data collected from paired body parts are typically reformatted into categorical bilateral data structures for subsequent research. This article applies Donner’s equal correlation coefficient model and obtains nine simultaneous confidence intervals (SCI) of proportion ratios under three asymptotic statistical methods and three ways of multiplicity adjustment. The empirical coverage probability and mean interval width are evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations. Читать дальше...

Neighborhood poverty and hopelessness in older adults: The mediating role of perceived neighborhood disorder

by Yeon Jin Choi, Eun Young Choi, Jennifer A. Ailshire

Hopelessness is one of the strongest predictors of health and mortality, particularly for older populations. Prior research has found associations between individual-level socioeconomic factors and hopelessness, but less is known about the potential importance of neighborhood-level socioeconomic contexts for hopelessness. In particular, the role of neighborhood disorder as a potential explanatory factor for poor psychological well-being remains underexplored. Читать дальше...

Prediabetes increases the risk of pancreatic cancer: A meta-analysis of longitudinal observational studies

by Xuefang Huang, Huan Li, Lisha Zhao, Lingli Xu, Hui Long

Background

Glycemic disorder is closely related to the risk of pancreatic cancer, but previous studies focused on the influence of diabetes. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the influence of prediabetes, an intermediate state between normoglycemia and diabetes, on the risk of pancreatic cancer.

Methods

Relevant longitudinal observational studies were identified through a search of Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Читать дальше...

Fast & furious: Rejecting the hypothesis that secondary psychopathy improves reaction time-based concealed information detection

by Imbar Mizrahi, Nathalie klein Selle

Deception, a complex aspect of human behavior, is inherently difficult to detect directly. A valid alternative involves memory detection, particularly through methods such as the Reaction-Time based Concealed Information Test (RT-CIT). The RT-CIT assesses whether an individual possesses specific knowledge by presenting various probe (familiar) items amidst irrelevant (unfamiliar) items. The task-required "unfamiliar" response to probes may induce a response conflict. Читать дальше...
