The shared biomarkers and immune landscape in psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis: Findings based on bioinformatics, machine learning and single-cell analysis

by Kaiyi Zhou, Siyu Luo, Qinxiao Wang, Sheng Fang

Objective

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are the most common types of inflammatory musculoskeletal disorders that share overlapping clinical features and complications. The aim of this study was to identify shared marker genes and mechanistic similarities between PsA and RA.

Methods

We utilized datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and perform functional enrichment analyses. Читать дальше...

Deep learning-based rice pest detection research

by Peng Xiong, Cong Zhang, Linfeng He, Xiaoyun Zhan, Yuantao Han

With the increasing pressure on global food security, the effective detection and management of rice pests have become crucial. Traditional pest detection methods are not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also often fail to achieve real-time monitoring and rapid response. This study aims to address the issue of rice pest detection through deep learning techniques to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. Читать дальше...

PD-YOLO: A study of daily behavioural detection in housed sheep

by Jie Wang, Yahong Zhai, Lan Zhu, Longyan Xu, Hongguang Yuan

Sheep behavior recognition helps to monitor the health status of sheep and prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases. Aiming at the problems of low detection accuracy and slow speed due to the crowding of sheep in real farming scenarios, which can easily obscure each other, this study proposes a lightweight sheep behavior recognition model based on the YOLOv8n model. First, the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) is introduced and improved in the YOLOv8n model... Читать дальше...

Ca2+-PP2B-PSD-95 axis: A novel regulatory mechanism of the phosphorylation state of Serine 295 of PSD-95

by Takahiko Chimura, Toshiya Manabe

The phosphorylation state of PSD-95 at Serine 295 (Ser295) is important for the regulation of synaptic plasticity. Although the activation of NMDA receptors (NMDARs), which initiates an intracellular calcium signaling cascade, decreases phosphorylated Ser295 (pS295) of PSD-95, the molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. We found that the calcium-activated protein phosphatase PP2B dephosphorylated pS295 not only in basal conditions but also in NMDAR-activated conditions in cultured neurons. Читать дальше...

Rho1 and Rgf1 establish a new actin-dependent signal to determine growth poles in yeast independently of microtubules and the Tea1–Tea4 complex

by Patricia Garcia, Ruben Celador, Tomas Edreira, Yolanda Sanchez

Cellular asymmetry begins with the selection of a discrete point on the cell surface that triggers Rho-GTPases activation and localized assembly of the cytoskeleton to establish new growth zones. The cylindrical shape of fission yeast is organized by microtubules (MT) that deliver the landmark Tea1–Tea4 complex at the cell tips to define the growth poles. However, only a few tea1Δ cells mistaken the direction of growth, indicating... Читать дальше...

The strength of interspecies interaction in a microbial community determines its susceptibility to invasion

by Suraya Muzafar, Ramith R. Nair, Dan I. Andersson, Omar M. Warsi

Previous work shows that a host’s resident microbial community can provide resistance against an invading pathogen. However, this community is continuously changing over time due to adaptive mutations, and how these changes affect the invasion resistance of these communities remains poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, we used an experimental evolution approach in synthetic communities of Escherichia coli and... Читать дальше...
