Authorities suspect gang members involved in 7 killings at marijuana grow farm

Authorities say they suspect gang members were involved in the 2020 shooting deaths of seven Laotian workers at an illegal marijuana growing operation in a small Southern California community. Riverside County Sheriff’s investigators said they have also identified a mid-size, dark-colored SUV that was believed to be used during the 2020 killings in Aguanga. The announcement comes more than four years after the killings. More 1,000 marijuana plants were found at the site. The state broadly legalized recreational marijuana sales in January 2018. A major airline is being fined for chronic flight delays, and passengers may get a cut of the money

JetBlue is getting hit with a $2 million penalty for chronically late flights. The Transportation Department said Friday that half the money will go to passengers who were delayed on flights along four routes on the East Coast between summer 2022 and late 2023. Detroit sees a drop in homicides and violent crime, according to preliminary 2024 data

Preliminary year-end statistics show that homicides in Detroit have dropped to levels not seen since before the mid-1960s. Mayor Mike Duggan says Friday that Detroit ended 2024 with 203 homicides — down 49 from the year before and the fewest in the city since 188 were committed in 1965. Nonfatal shootings, assaults, carjackings and other violent crime also continue to drop across the city. Detroit is part of a national trend as overall violent crime across the U.S. is declining.
