The Great American Bacon Race to bring the sizzle to Davie & Miami; register now!

Bacon buffs will want to run over to The Great American Bacon Race. That's because the event — headed first to Davie in May, then to Miami in June — puts porcine pleasures at the finish line.

WHAT:

Bacon buffs will want to run over to The Great American Bacon Race.

That’s because the event — headed first to Davie this month, then to Miami next month — puts porcine pleasures at the finish line.

Yes, it’s a 5K walk/run. And, yes, it’s also a fundraiser. But let’s keep it real: It’s all about the bacon.

There will be food trucks, as well as a post-race Bacon Bash with a DJ, bacon tastings, vendors and competitions such as a bacon-eating contest, bacon-inspired costumes and a “Bacon Mile,” in which you run a mile and eat a plate of bacon every quarter mile.

“We give out bacon throughout the event,” says founder Garfield Griffiths, who this year is producing the races with business partner Josh Stern, CEO of local race company WildSide Online. “We have a dedicated bacon ‘corral’ post-race and the runners filter through after getting their medal and get to eat various styles (and) flavors of bacon, including a chocolate bacon.”

This year marks the return of The Great American Bacon Race since the pandemic. The event will also be staged in Orlando and Tampa.

WHEN/WHERE:

• Sunday, May 19, at Vista View Park, 4001 SW 142nd Ave., Davie
• Sunday, June 9, Tamiami Park, 11201 SW 24th St., Miami
• At both events, the 5k walk/run starts at 8 a.m. and the 1k Kids Bacon Dash is set for 9 a.m.

COST:

• In Davie, registration for the 5k is $44 and the 1k Kids Bacon Dash is $30.
• In Miami, registration for the 5k is $39 until Saturday, June 1, and then is $44. Registration for the 1k Kids Bacon Dash is $25 and ends Sunday, May 19.
• Admission is free for spectators at both events, but there is no access into the main bacon corral.
