Albany County Deputy County Executive Michael McLaughlin Jr. was arrested on Wednesday and charged with intoxicated driving. According to New York State Police, McLaughlin refused to provide a sample to determine the alcohol content of his blood, making a BAC unavailable.

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany County Deputy County Executive Michael McLaughlin Jr. was arrested on Wednesday and charged with intoxicated driving. According to New York State Police, McLaughlin Jr. refused to provide a sample to determine the alcohol content of his blood, making a BAC unavailable.

Per police records, McLaughlin Jr. was released to a sober third party following his arrest. He is ordered to return to court later in May.

Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy released the following statement:

"Here in this country, we have fought for freedom and the right to due process. Everyone has the right to defend themselves against allegations. Here, there are allegations which Mike shall be defending with his private attorney. This matter is not government-related and did not occur in any capacity of his or anyone else's official capacity. We shall continue to support our colleague through his personal matter."
