Gardening fans rave over ‘miracle’ product that removes green algae from fences & it costs just £1.99 from Home Bargains

LET’S face it, cleaning your garden fence of green algae is unlikely to be at the top of your to-do list.

But with the warm weather will come garden parties, so it’s best to tackle it sooner rather than later – and the good news is, there’s no need to fork out on a pricey pressure washer.

That’s because gardening fans have instead been praising a £1.99 cheap product from Home Bargains that they say does the job just as well, but for a fraction of the price.

It comes after Sofia Louise took to Facebook group Gardening On A Budget Official and shared a photo of her wall that’s covered in green algae – an issue many others have shared with their fences.

Alongside the photo, she penned: “Looking for some advice that disgusting looking wall before I paint it white how on earth do I get rid of the green algae/moss?

“I’ve tried soap & a wire brush it won’t budge.”

But luckily Sofia wasn’t short of answers, with several gardening fans rushing to the comments section to share their top cleaning products.

And there was one stand-out recommendation – ‘Spear and Jackson Select algae, moss and mould remover.’

Sharing a photo of themselves holding up a 750ml bottle of spray, one person penned: “This cleaned the green off my fence. £1 .99 in Home Bargains.”

The “powerful outdoor formula” claims to “remove algae, moss and mould from paths, patios and other outdoor surfaces.”

Not only that, but it’ll also help to “prevent regrowth” so there’ll be no need to worry about the green mould returning for months or even years to come.

Elsewhere, others were keen to share their go-to products for keeping their fences looking brand new.

Amongst the popular suggestions includes £1 Astonish Mould and Mildew spray, which can be snapped up from the likes of Poundland.

“Worked on my fence panels,” one person claimed.

It comes after Fabulous previously told how a woman named Jenner praised the “amazing” product which she said was “cheap as chips.”

She wrote: “Cheap as chips Mould and Mildew spray to get rid of green algae on fences.

“This fence has bugged me since we moved in..I painted it but within a few weeks it was green again.

How high can a garden fence be?

Despite what many people think a garden fence can be as high as 100m but you need to get planning permission for any fence taller than 2m.

Any fence under 2m does not need planning permission.

However, there are some complications to this.

If you are thinking about front garden fences, restrictions state that fences alongside a driveway can be a maximum of 1m or 3ft.

You would need to get planning permission for putting a trellis on a fence of 2m.

But, if any plant that you grow on that trellis exceeds 2m, you do not need to obtain a permit for the growing plant.

“Someone suggested the mould and mildew spray and I was sceptical so thought I’d try just a few slats to see if it made and difference…did it last week and promptly forgot all about it..just been to check and its amazing!”

She added: “Much cheaper than any fence treatment I’ve seen and/or hiring a jet washer!”

The Astonish spray claims to effectively remove mould and mildew in minutes, killing 99.9% of bacteria.

It’s super simple to use, too – you simply need to spray, leave on for a few minutes and then wipe clean – with the active formula even helping to prevent the mould and mildew from returning.
