'They don't care!' Morning Joe mocks GOP for risking majority with 'bizarre' stunts

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) failed in her leadership challenge against House Speaker Mike Johnson, and MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said she and other hard-right Republicans genuinely don't care whether they're in the majority.

Many hardline conservatives represent heavily gerrymandered districts that ensure their own seat is safe, and the "Morning Joe" host said those Republicans would rather rant and rave on the House floor and on social media than take responsibility for governance, so they'd almost prefer to let Democrats take control.

"The crazy thing is, though, they don't care if they lose the majority – they really don't," Scarborough said. "In fact, being in the minority is better for these people because they're on the back bench. They can attack the Democratic speaker, they can attack the Democratic president, they can attack the Democratic Senate. I mean, this is actually -- it is such a bizarre, backward way of thinking, but they now think they can raise money whether they're in the majority or minority. If they're in the majority, they actually are looked to to get things done. That actually cuts against their business plan, against their governing by gesture. You actually have to do things in the majority. When you don't, people start to notice, like they're starting to notice with Marjorie Taylor Greene. You're in the minority – no responsibility, you're not going to get anything done, your gesturing can become even more grand."

"That's the real problem for Marjorie Taylor Greene and these others that they present to the Republican Party, like [Rep.] Chip Roy screaming on the House floor, 'Name one thing we've gotten done,'" Scarborough added. "It's going to be a real challenge going into the election for the Republicans."
