Man Utd handed huge boost ahead of Arsenal clash as injured duo returns to first-team training

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford, and they will be desperate to return to winning ways following the demoralising 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday.

Manager Erik ten Hag knows his job is on the line and he has been handed a huge double injury boost ahead of the clash with the Gunners and the FA Cup final against Manchester City later this month.

The Red Devils confirmed on their official website this afternoon that both Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford have returned to first-team training.

While it remains to be seen whether they will be involved in action, having them available for selection is a massive boost for Man United.

Injuries forced Ten Hag to pair Jonny Evans with Casemiro at the back against the Eagles, and the Dutchman knows the duo cannot be trusted against the Gunners following their pitiable performance on Monday.

Martinez has not featured for the Red Devils since he was taken off in the 1-1 draw at Brentford in March and the Argentine has had an injury-ridden campaign, with 11 appearances to his name all season due to a calf strain.

Having him back will come in handy and Man United fans will hope he is fit enough to start against Arsenal this weekend.

However, whether Ten Hag wants to risk him for the game remains to be seen as winning the FA Cup is now top priority for him if he wants to keep his job beyond this summer.

He could decide against rushing the centre-back back into action if he is not fully fit, and it will be interesting to see what his final decision is.

On the other hand, Rashford should be ready to face Arsenal despite getting hurt in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City at Wembley.

The England international forward has not had the best of seasons and will be desperate to show what he is capable of in the remaining games so as to boost his chances of making it to the European Championships with the Three Lions this summer, and having such a motivated player could work in the favour of Man United.
