Man armed with ‘dangerous weapons’ shot by police in Bridgeport

A armed man was shot in the leg by police in Bridgeport early Thursday morning.

An armed man was shot by a police officer in Bridgeport early Thursday.

The shooting occurred after officers with the Bridgeport Police Department responded to the 200 block of Birdseye Street at 5:54 a.m. after receiving multiple calls reporting a man armed with “dangerous weapons,” according to Tiadora Josef, director of public information for the City of Bridgeport.

Officers arrived quickly at the scene and encountered an armed man, Josef said in a statement.

According to Josef, multiple officers fired their guns.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was shot in the lower leg, Josef said. The man is in stable condition.

“This is an active investigation at this time,” Josef said.
