Mary Trump highlights something odd about family support at Trump's trial

Mary Trump noticed something unusual about her family's support for Donald Trump in his hush money trial.

The former president has been ordered by New York Judge Juan Merchan to attend his trial on 34 charges of falsifying business records to cover up payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, and Mary Trump pointed out that younger son Eric Trump had shown up several times to support his father.

But the ex-president's namesake son Donald Trump Jr. has been nowhere to be seen, reported Newsweek.

"Maybe Eric drew the short straw because it doesn't really make sense that it's just him and not both of them or vice versa," Mary Trump told MSNBC's Katie Phang.

The ex-president probably "doesn't care if they're there or not," she said, and was most likely "much more disturbed by the absence of the crowds outside rallying his defense."

Mary Trump isn't surprised Ivanka Trump isn't there, because she long ago determined that associating with her family wasn't in her best interest.

"She doesn't need them," she said. "All of these relationships are transactional, and she is a legitimately wealthy person because of the person she's married to. She doesn't need Donald for anything. She's not going to show up in a courtroom to support him, especially in a case that is at its base so depressingly tawdry."

Trump Jr. has shown support for his father on social media, calling the trial the "most corrupt prosecution in American history," and his younger brother has also criticized the case and their father's former attorney Michael Cohen outside the courthouse and on Fox News.

"The New York DA's office is sitting in court and they're sitting there, they're giggling and laughing, this is their All Star moment, this is their Super Bowl moment," Eric Trump told host Laura Ingraham.

"They're excited and they're laughing, they finally get the opportunity to get my father," he added. "Then I look at Cohen, and he's giddy. He's so happy to say that he's a personal attorney for Donald J. Trump, and how honored he was and how great it was and he worked in that role even after he left the organization."
