Opioid settlement money funding community programs

New funding is being made available for some local organizations to help fight against substance abuse.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New funding is being made available for some local organizations to help fight against substance abuse. It's part of Albany County's opioid settlement fund.

More than $2 million will be distributed to 14 community organizations focused on disorder prevention, treatment and recovery. County officials said the money will help curb the cycle of addiction.

"As you've seen the price of alcohol rise, kids are turning to drugs because it's cheaper," Albany County Exec. Dan McCoy said. "We don't want that. We want to educate people about what path they are on and give them the options in recovery that they need."

The funding will also boost supportive services to help those in recovery like housing support and employment assistance.
