'Stay tuned': Trump lawyers could be headed for a new gag order showdown on Monday

When Donald Trump's lawyers make their Monday morning appearance in Judge Juan Merchan's courtroom they may face being put on the spot over their client's recurring refusal to abide by the judge's gag order.

During an appearance on MSNBC's "The Weekend," former Manhattan Asst. District Attorney Catherine Christian pointed out that Trump's complicity in recruiting and assisting Republican lawmakers to attack participants in his hush money trial was expressly forbidden by the judge and the former president could be in for more trouble.

Last week, a bevy of GOP lawmakers from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) skipped out of Washington D.C. to parade and rant before the cameras in Manhattan as Trump faces 34-felony counts related to paying off an adult film star to keep her mouth closed about their affair.

According to one reporter covering Trump's trial, he saw the former president writing talking points for his Congressional MAGA allies which is a direct violation of Merchan's gag order.

Speaking with the MSNBC hosts, Christian pointed out Merchan specifically ordered, "The gag order says he can't make statements or direct others to make statements against witnesses or jurors."

Addressing outrage from the MSNBC hosts that Trump has avoided serious consequences for his gag order violations, Christian suggested that, with the wealth of information about Trump's involvement now public, his lawyers may be in for a rough time on Monday.

"If this were anybody else, if this were anybody else and folks were on national television saying, 'I saw him editing the statements during court' the next day ... so what is going on?" co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend demanded.

"Stay tuned," Christian replied. "Monday we might hear the prosecutors come and say — there is one prosecutor who has been assigned to take care of this, his name is Christopher Conroy. He might have to make an appearance on Monday."
