The Labour Party deputy leader had previously described him as her “soulmate”.

But the couple split in November last year, after being together for two years.

At the time, a friend of heartbroken Ms Rayner said: “Sometimes people turn out not to be who you thought they were.”

But The Sun on Sunday understands the couple have been getting close again over the past couple of months.

It comes as Ms Rayner, 44, is investigated by police over claims she broke electoral law with the sale of her former council house in Stockport in 2015.

Claims she failed to pay up to £3,500 in capital gains tax are also under scrutiny.

A Westminster insider who spotted the pair together at an event earlier this year said: “Everyone thinks they are back on.

“They have been out in public together looking very close.”

Ms Rayner, who broke up with husband of ten years Mark in 2020, and Mr Tarry, 41, were first revealed as a couple when photographed leaving her London flat together in January 2022.

Mr Tarry — who has two children with his ex-wife — had a toothbrush sticking out of his coat pocket.

It was the same flat he was seen leaving on Tuesday morning.

Last year, the mum-of-three spoke of her love for the Ilford South MP.

Speaking at a fundraising event, she said: “He is one of the most kind-hearted, amazing individuals I know and he’s also my soulmate. He’s a really good guy.”

But in November last year Ms Rayner, announced their split.

At the time, close pals rallied round her.

One said: “She’s been through a lot in her life but Ange is as tough as nails.”

‘Bouncing back’

Another said: “Sometimes people turn out not to be who you thought they were.”

A third pal added: “Breaking up is never easy but she’s bouncing back and getting on with the job of representing people.”

Despite the pair appearing to be getting close again, a source close to Ms Rayner said: “Angela won’t be commenting on gossip and tittle tattle.”

Mr Tarry has been deselected as an MP by Labour members in Ilford.

The ex-minister has submitted a formal complaint alleging vote-rigging.

The Sun on Sunday tried to contact Mr Tarry for comment.
