After sudden flooding and a shock seven-hour thunderstorm battered the south-west of England and Wales on Saturday the end of the weekend has turned much brighter.

Herefordshire and Ipswich is expected to hit 23C this afternoon, say the Met Office.

The West Mids, Milton Keynes, Cambridge and parts of Wales will see highs of 22C.

Meanwhile, those affected by heavy downpours and floods yesterday are predicted to experience 21C.

And the north of England could reach just one degree lower.

The sunny spell is expected to stay for the duration of Monday too.

The weather service said: “Sunday is a fine day with plenty of warm sunshine. Cooler under cloudier skies in the northeast.

“Monday will bring lots of warm sunshine [with] low cloud lingering in the northeast where it’ll be cooler.”

But as we look towards the middle of next week, “unsettled” conditions and showers are set to make a comeback on Tuesday until around Thursday.

Still feeling slightly warm, temperatures will only drop off to around 18C but wind gusts of nearly 40mph in parts will bring a chill.

The Met Office added: “Turning unsettled with showers and a risk of more organised and heavy rain, with strong winds in eastern areas by mid-week.

“Still some dry and warm, sunnier interludes at times.”
