News and Notes for Sunday, May 19th, 2024

It was Jose Ramirez bobblehead night so, of course, Jose Ramirez had a home run, a double and a single in an 11-4 drubbing of the Minnesota Twins.

I’m writing this under the deadline of going to celebrate my son’s fourth birthday, so I’m going to direct you to check out MLB.com’s Mandy Bell’s accounting of the game. Jose moved into fourth place all-time in the franchise’s home run hitter list. Tyler Freeman was 4 for 4, Andres Gimenez was 3 for 5, Bo Naylor had a hit and a walk, Brayan Rocchio was 2 for 4, and Kyle Manzardo got his first RBI on a double. It was great to see the Guardians’ offense have little trouble with Twins’ starter, Bailey Ober, who had been good this season so far. It all started with a 12 pitch at-bat from Jose leading to a first-inning home run:

Here’s a highlight of all the runs the Guardians scored:

It was also the second straight excellent start from Logan Allen against a division rival, with six scoreless innings, five hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. He was followed by scoreless innings from Nick Sandlin and new dad Sam Hentges. Pedro Avila then gave up four runs in the ninth and will be summarily replaced by Eli Morgan at some point, here.

The Guardians will have a chance for a sweep today as Tanner Bibee and Chris Paddack face off at 1:40PM EST.

Charlie Condon hit another homer for Georgia, going 3 for 6 in their final regular season game. Travis Bazzana was 3 for 5 with a double for Oregon State in their finale. Both continue to make their case for the 1.1 pick, but there is a dark horse emerging in JJ Wetherholt of West Virginia...

Around MLB:

The Royals won again.

So did the Tigers.

But not the White Sox.
