New state laws likely to prove costly | READER COMMENTARY

Taxpayers face a growing burden from scores of bills passed by Maryland General Assembly.

Every year, Maryland passes a slew of new laws (“Maryland Gov. Wes Moore signs juvenile justice legislation, state budget, and bills in honor of Pava LaPere,” May 16). No one seems to ask nor does the media seem to be interested in the costs of executing and enforcing all these new laws.

One big question comes to mind: Are all these new laws really needed or is it just an exercise by the Maryland General Assembly trying to be relevant?

One would think that enforcing all these new laws as well as existing ones is not without costs increasingly burdening taxpayers.
