Legendary band announce plans to reunite on stage in special gig to celebrate 40th anniversary
LEGENDARY Irish folk band Clannad have announced they will play a show at The Royal Albert Hall later this year.
The performance will mark the 40th anniversary of BAFTA-winning television programme Robin of Sherwood.
Clannad provided the show’s BAFTA-winning musical score.
The group, which comprises siblings Ciarán, Moya and Pól Brennan, made their live debut in 1970 at a music competition in Letterkenny, County Donegal.
As well as the siblings, the original line-up also included their late twin uncles, Pádraig Duggan (died 2016) and Noel Duggan (died 2022).
Meanwhile, the band also previously featured Enya, one of Ireland’s best-known and highest selling singers and composers.
She is the sister of the three Brennan siblings and niece of Noel and Pádraig Duggan.
The Royal Albert Hall performance will take place on October 30, with tickets going on presale from Wednesday, May 22 followed by general on sale on Friday, May 24.
It will be Clannad’s only live show of 2024 and follows the conclusion of their In A Lifetime – Farewell Tour which wrapped up in the US back in October 2023.
The band shared the exciting news during the ‘Herne’s Arrow’ commemorative event which brought all the actors and crew involved in the television series together in celebration of the anniversary.
Among those in attendance included Michael Praed (Robin of Loxley), Ray Winstone (Will Scarlet) and Jason Connery (Robert of Huntingdon).
Based on the legend of Robin Hood, the series differentiated itself from other adaptations.
The programme incorporated elements of real-life history, pagan myth and 20th-century fiction.
It aired on ITV from 1984 to 1986, totalling three series while Michael Praed and Jason Connery respectively played two separate incarnations of the title character.
To mark the anniversary, Clannad will also be re-releasing a special edition of the ‘Legend’ album.
It will feature previously unreleased music and is set to land in early October.
