However, they were unable to claim a first league title since 2004 as Manchester City also won against West Ham.

As a result, there was a sombre atmosphere inside the Emirates Stadium following the match.

The Arsenal players remained on the pitch to applaud their fans in a lap of appreciation.

Meanwhile, manager Mikel Arteta also addressed supporters with a post-match speech.

Ahead of the speech, TV cameras caught a glimpse of a disheartened Rice looking stern with his arms crossed behind Arteta.

Fans were quick to spot Rice, with one writing on X: “Declan Rice is having a strop at the Emirates.”

Another added: “Regrets picking Arsenal over City.””“Regrets picking Arsenal over City.”

A third supporter also joked: “Won more trophies at West Ham.”

Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham last summer but had also been linked with a move to City.

He featured in all 38 of the Gunners’ league matches, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.

It was not enough to win the title, though, as City ended the season two points clear.

Pep Guardiola’s side left Arsenal fans dejected by taking an early lead, with the Gunners needing their title rivals to drop points to have a chance of leapfrogging them.

Meanwhile, fans were later duped into thinking West Ham had equalised, prompting celebrations before they realised City were still in front.
