The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Lucas Bergvall will be a part of the Tottenham first-team setup next season under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham signed Bergvall from Swedish club Djurgarden in January but sent the midfielder back on loan for the rest of the season to continue his development.

This is a familiar move from the Lilywhites, with Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie both being sent back to Metz and Udinese respectively to play one more season on loan before linking up with the Spurs first-team.

That is certainly a good omen for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham, with both Sarr and Udogie breaking their way into the starting XI this season as two of the club’s best young stars.

Bergvall has played 16 times for Djurgaden this season, scoring four and assisting another five from central midfield (TransferMarkt). And it appears Spurs are confident he can make the step up to Premier League football next season.

Tottenham have a first-team spot for Lucas Bergvall

Charlie Eccleshare confirms that Lucas Bergvall will slot into the Tottenham first-team setup as soon as he arrives for pre-season this summer.

The journalist also tipped him for a big second half to the season if he can impress in the lesser competitions.

He wrote: ‘Lucas Bergvall, the 18-year-old Swedish midfielder, will move permanently in the summer and arrives with a big reputation. Bergvall is brilliant at retaining the ball in tight spaces and has a knack for arriving in the box.

‘He is expected to be part of the first-team squad next season. If he can impress in the Carabao Cup and Europa League early on, he could have a big impact in the second half of the season.’

I just have a feeling that Bergvall is going to be a breakout star next season for Spurs. Tottenham need more players who can look after the ball and create from deep, and his youthful energy should be right at home in Postecoglou’s system.
