Iconic motor bought for just £5k by Wheeler Dealers’ host Mike Brewer in classic episode now worth eye-watering price
AN ICONIC motor that was bought for just £5,000 on Wheeler Dealers could now be worth an eye-watering price at auction.
The model was a favourite of some A-list celebs and was even a mainstay in a beloved TV show.
The Jensen Interceptor is a legend of British motoring, renowned particularly for its gorgeous exterior design.
In a classic episode of Wheeler Dealers from 2010, host Mike Brewer and Edd China took on a 1973 version and restored it to its former glory.
Mike described the car as “gorgeous” and said it “looked absolutely mint”.
After some issues “in the depths” of the engine were worked out by Edd, the Jensen apparently “sailed through” its MOT and was ready to be sold.
First produced back in 1966, the Interceptor quickly became a firm favourite among petrolheads of the era.
It was also beloved by A-list celebs like actress Lynda Carter and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, as well as two members of Led Zeppelin.
And crime drama fans may recognise the models as the long-time wheels of Inspector Lynley in the legendary BBC Show.
Amazingly, the pair only sold the motor for £7,000 which, along with the cost of repairs and an MOT, left little room for profit.
It seems they didn’t ask for enough as the exact car used in the show sold back in 2021 for £22,000.
Even then it seems that this was actually a low estimate as MOT history checks show some corrosion and rust on one side.
Similar models can go for quite a bit more if they’re in better nick.
One listing on Car & Classic has a 1972 Interceptor for sale with just over £43,000 miles on the clock.
The stunning classic is set to sell for a whopping £88,000.
Although, if you do want to get your hands on it, you’ll have to head up to a showroom in Aberdeen for a viewing.
