CNN's Bolduan ends Uvalde interview in tears on anniversary of school mass murder

An interview with the uncle of one of the victims of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas ended with CNN host Kate Bolduan in tears on Friday morning.

On the two-year anniversary of the murderous rampage by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos that left 17 students dead while police waited outside the classrooms for more than 70 minutes, Bolduan spoke with Jesse Rizo who lost his niece Jackie Cazaraes who, the CNN host pointed out, would have been graduating from sixth grade this month.

The interview came just two days after the city of Uvalde settled with the families of the victims for $2 million.

According to a report from the BBC, "A Justice Department report published in January found that a 'lack of urgency' plagued the response by more than 370 officers from various local, state and federal departments. They waited over 70 minutes before confronting the culprit, who was eventually shot and killed."

Speaking with Bolduan, a choked-up Rizzo shared that his niece, "Would want the entire world to take a moment at 11:30 this morning and just embrace each other. Whether it's a stranger on the train, whether it's somebody, your coworker — and hug each other and tell that you love them, and be there for each other."

"She would want for them to just be compassionate, to show that love that she had towards everybody, strangers, friends, loved ones, relatives. That's what I would think that she would want today," he continued.

"I wish I could reach out and give you a hug right now, a distressed Bolduan replied before making a deep sigh and pausing before choking out, "Thanks, Jesse. Thank you."
