‘My mind is blown’ say nineties pop fans as they realise one hit wonder wrote SIX of TV’s theme tunes
NINETIES pop fans have been left stunned after realising that one man is behind SIX of TV most memorable theme tunes.
Music producer David Lowe, 65, is best know for his catalogue of work on theme tunes for bulletins and programmes for BBC News.
He is also behind the well-known title songs for Grand Designs, The One Show, Really Wild Show, Panorama and Countryfile.
Back in 1997, David shot to fame when he released his debut album Dreamcatcher.
He performed a live mix that year at the first Thames River Festival, and stunned audiences with a record-breaking tightrope walk across the river.
His single Would You…? under the name Touch and Go was a top three hit in the UK in 1998 and a hit in the rest of Europe in early 1999.
The album I’ve Noticed You Around racked up a huge number of hits in Europe.
David’s most well-known compositions came in the form of the BBC News them in 1999.
He created a more electric sound with the ‘pips’ that are used on ever hour on the BBC radio stations.
Over two decades on and his themes have been remixed a number of times for BBC News in the UK as well as the international channel like BBC World News.
David has also worked on theme tunes for Cash in the Attic, Wildlife on One and The Really Wild Show, S4C, Channel 4, and the Channel 5 motoring programme Fifth Gear.
He was also commissioned to write the music for the BAFTA Film and Television Awards and for the BBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics in 2005.
