Trump accused of making 'mob boss threat' against Jack Smith in documents case

Donald Trump on Saturday lashed out against Special Counsel Jack Smith, saying the prosecutor's recent moves in the criminal Espionage Act case in Florida will "backfire."

Smith recently moved to amend Trump's pre-trial terms in the case over stashed classified documents, saying Trump should be limited from statements that could endanger the lives of law enforcement. The request came after Trump and his allies spread a false rumor that President Joe Biden's justice department sought to use "deadly force" against Trump during its search for documents at Trump's Mar-a-Lago golf resort.

Experts have suggested the move by Smith will put pressure on Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case, or reveal bias in favor of the man who appointed her to her spot on the bench.

Trump had a different take.

"Deranged Jack Smith has asked Judge Aileen Cannon in Florida for a Gag Order on me, so that I cannot talk about all of the Crimes he has committed, including the Illegal, Unconstitutional, and Unwarranted RAID of Mar-a-Lago," Trump wrote on Truth Social this weekend. "I guess they’re hoping they can silence me from telling the TRUTH like the Corrupt and Highly Conflicted Judge in New York City has done."

Trump went on to say that "Gag Orders have a very strong tendency to BACKFIRE."

"If anybody should be GAGGED, it should be Deranged Jack, who was recently caught doing very bad things - and I should be able to talk about that, and everything else having to do with this Hoax - from which Crooked Joe Biden was FULLY EXONERATED!" Trump added.

Former prosecutor Ron Filipkowski flagged the social media post Saturday, saying, "Trump makes another one of his Mob Boss threats/innuendos towards Jack Smith."
