US will store aid on secure beach in Gaza as UN pauses distribution from pier

The U.S. military says it plans to stockpile humanitarian aid shipments on a secure beach in Gaza during a U.N. pause on distributing food from the American-built pier. The pause comes as the U.N. said it would carry out a security assessment to ensure its workers and partners are safe. It said Monday that the pause in aid deliveries would be temporary. The review follows an Israeli military operation Saturday that rescued four Israeli hostages and left 274 Palestinians dead. Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters that there's enough space for aid to be stored in a secure holding area on the beach until agencies restart distribution into Gaza.
