Firefighters gain ground against Southern California wildfire but face dry, windy weather

Officials say firefighters have increased their containment of a large wildfire that is threatening critical infrastructure in mountains north of Los Angeles. Hot, dry, windy weather forecast for Tuesday could pose challenges. The Post Fire was 20% contained. Strong winds mean the fire is expected to keep moving south. Officials had earlier warned residents of the 19,000-person community of Castaic that they should prepare to leave if the fire pushed south. Officials say that “important structures like power lines, dams, and oil pipelines are at risk.” In Northern California’s Calaveras County, a new fire has burned nearly 8 square miles and led to evacuations.
