NATIONAL SUMMARY

Locally drenching thunderstorms will rumble from the central

Plains to New England today. Storms can turn severe and

produce damaging wind gusts of 50-60 mph. Hail and flooding

downpours will also be main concerns. Meanwhile, tropical

rainfall will continue to drench portions of central and

South Texas. A couple of showers and a thunderstorm are

expected in much of Florida as tropical moisture streams

westward. Much of the Ohio Valley and Northeast will

continue to experience intense heat, with some locations

likely to tie or break record highs once again. Highs will

also be above average in the Southwest although they will

fall short of records.
