UK's gambling watchdog says 5 more police officers allegedly placed bets on election date

London police say five more police officers allegedly placed bets on the timing of Britain’s July 4 national election. The allegations by the Gambling Commission add to widening claims that those in power profited from inside information. The Metropolitan Police said the gambling watchdog relayed information on the five officers’ alleged misconduct. The officers, who provided protection for royalty, politicians and diplomats, have not been arrested. Several members of the governing Conservative Party and one of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s police bodyguards are being investigated for allegedly using inside information to place bets on the election date before it was announced.
