Far right seeks to turn election win into majority

Marine Le Pen said her far-right National Rally party will only take the helm of government if it wins an absolute majority in Sunday’s snap legislative election, as the various parties worked to secure alliances and maximise their chances in the second round. Round one on Sunday propelled the National Rally closer than ever to government but also left open the possibility that voters could yet block its path to power in the decisive round two.
