Iran's fearless filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof: from prison to Cannes

Rasoulof's film "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" tells the story of a court investigator whose family life is torn apart during Iran's women-led protests. Collecting the prize on Saturday, Rasoulof said his heart was with the film's crew, "still under the pressure of the secret services back in Iran". The special jury prize was awarded for "drawing attention to unsustainable injustice" in his country. Bonmati pounced after 63 minutes and substitute Putellas finished the job in stoppage time to avenge Barcelona's prior defeats by Sonia Bompastor's side. Verstappen frustrated with 'kangaroo' car in Monaco

The world championship leader complained his car was "jumping like a kangaroo and gave him a headache" and he failed to take pole for the first time this season. "I'm not disappointed with the position, but with the performance the whole weekend," said the three-time world champion. "But it's no surprise. I knew our limitations coming into this weekend. We can take kerbs and it's like driving a go-kart with no suspension and no damping." In a closely-contested session, Ferrari's Monegasque home-town... Читать дальше...

Toulouse outlast Leinster in Champions Cup final thriller

For Leinster this agonising reverse in London meant they have lost the last three Champions Cup finals following successive defeats by another French club, La Rochelle. Superb defence was behind Toulouse's victory as they gained revenge for 2022 and 2023 semi-final defeats by Leinster. Neither side managed a try in a regulation 80 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that ended level at 15-15 after five penalties apiece Leinster, however, had arguably had more and better chances. Ten Hag unclear on future despite Man Utd FA Cup win

Teenage stars Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo struck in the first half at Wembley and United then dug deep to win 2-1 after City substitute Jeremy Doku's late effort. It means Ten Hag's side finished a miserable season on a high and also qualified for next season's Europa League. The build-up to the second successive all-Manchester FA Cup final was dominated by talk over Ten Hag's future after a report on Friday said he would be sacked by United's new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe regardless of the result. Pogacar sets seal on crushing Giro d'Italia triumph to emulate Merckx

Riding a bright pink bike to match the leader's jersey he has held since the second stage, Pogacar surged away on the punishing Monte Grappa climb to claim his sixth win in his debut Giro, matching the tally by Merckx, another non-sprinter, in 1973. The UAE rider holds a nine-minute 56 second lead over Daniel Martinez and will be crowned champion at the end of Sunday's procession around Rome unless an unprecedented disaster strikes in the Italian capital. Pole-sitter Leclerc eyes maiden Monaco win as Verstappen struggles

After securing Ferrari's 250th pole position as a Formula One constructor and his third at his home-town circuit, the 26-year-old Monegasque driver said he was painfully aware that he had yet to score a Monte Carlo podium -- and was intent on winning Sunday's 78-lap race. "I know very well that more often than not qualifying is not everything, as much as it helps for Sunday's race, and we need to put everything together," he said. "In past years, we didn't manage to do so. "But we are a stronger... Читать дальше...

Man Utd stun Man City in FA Cup final to give Ten Hag hope of avoiding the sack

Ten Hag was reportedly set to be dismissed regardless of the result at Wembley after a troubled campaign that even the United manager described as "terrible" this week. But United's hierarchy might be having second thoughts after Ten Hag's tactical masterclass ruined City's history bid. City were hot favourites to win a second successive Premier League and FA Cup double. Yet Ten Hag found a way to neutralise Pep Guardiola's side as first half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo put... Читать дальше...

Riding a bright pink bike to match the leader's jersey he has held since the second stage, Pogacar surged to his sixth win in his debut Giro which he is closing out in a style reminiscent of cycling icon Eddy Merckx. The Slovenian star will be crowned champion at the end of Sunday's procession around Rome, unless an unprecedented disaster strikes in the Italian capital. Top UN court ruling unlikely to have ‘any effect on the war itself’

The International Court of Justice's order on Friday demanding that Israel halt its Rafah offensive in Gaza is unlikely to have "any effect on the war itself", FRANCE 24's Oliver Farry said, adding that “nobody, whether they be allies or enemies of Israel, is going to intervene militarily to enforce this”.  The top UN court’s ruling does however provide more ammunition to the ongoing case against Israel for genocide in Gaza, Farry said.
