New state climatologist for Louisiana warns of a 'very active' hurricane season

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has announced Jay Grymes, the chief meteorologist for WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, will serve as the new state climatologist. Grymes will be working with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in an expanded role to serve the state as a weather specialist. Among responsibilities in his role, Grymes will be tasked with monitoring Louisiana’s climate and archiving data. Officials say the position is especially important in a state that consistently faces threats during hurricane seasons.
