NFL Vikings rookie defender Jackson killed in car crash

Jackson, selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of this year's NFL Draft, was a front-seat passenger in a Dodge Charger and pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel in a three-car incident at Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

"I'm absolutely crushed by this news," Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said. "Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him."

Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, were also in the Charger and killed in the crash. Hazel was the driver.

Their vehicle was struck by a silver Infiniti driven by Cori Clingman, after which her vehicle struck a Chevrolet Impala before going off the highway and striking tree stumps.

Investigators believe alcohol could have been a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

"We're devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson's death," the Vikings said in a statement. "While we work to gather more information, we have spoken to Khyree's family and offered the support of the Minnesota Vikings.

"We've also communicated the news to Vikings players, coaches and staff and have offered counseling for those who need emotional support. Our thoughts are with Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident."

Jackson spent two seasons at the University of Alabama and played his last college season in 2023 at the University of Oregon. He had yet to play for the Vikings.

"The NFL family is deeply saddened and devastated by the passing of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson." the league said in a statement. "Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, loved ones and everybody involved in this tragic accident."

Jackson had three interceptions, seven pass break-ups, two sacks and 34 tackles for Oregon last season.
