Missouri execution plans move forward despite prosecutor trying to overturn murder conviction

The Missouri Supreme Court is moving forward with execution plans for Marcellus Williams, even as a prosecutor tries to overturn his murder conviction. Judges on Friday decided against halting Williams' execution despite the prosecutor's efforts. The prosecutor filed a motion in January to vacate Williams’ 1998 conviction, citing DNA evidence. Williams has an Aug. 21 hearing before a St. Louis County court judge to determine whether he's innocent. He asked the Supreme Court to withdraw the order for his Sept. 24 execution. They say they don't have the procedural authority to do so at this time.
