Kacey Musgraves is on a surreal journey.

The 35-year-old Deeper Well singer-songwriter shared the music video for her song “Cardinal” on Monday (July 15).

A synopsis, via the official release: “The video is set in a liminal and mundane place – one that feels surreal but familiar and ordinary at the same time and takes you on an abstract and kaleidoscopic trip through birth, rebirth, nature, memory, dream, and the fragmented pieces of ourselves that eventually transform into different energy when we leave this world behind.”

The video is a reunion with director Scott Cudmore, who also shot the music video for “Too Good to be True.”

The song was inspired by the passing of her friend and mentor John Prine.

“Cardinal” recently peaked at #5 on the Triple A radio chart as well. She’ll be kicking off the North American leg of her Deeper Well World Tour on September 4 in State College, Penn. through December 7 in Nashville, Tenn. Click here for tour and ticket info!
