NATIONAL SUMMARY

Showers and thunderstorms, some severe, will rumble across

portions of the Southeast, Ohio Valley and Midwest today.

Thunderstorms in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois may

bring localized damaging wind gusts and heavy, flooding

downpours. Meanwhile, a storm will bring thundershowers,

rough surf and gusty winds to the southern New England

coast. An area of high pressure centered over the eastern

Rockies will promote breezy, hot and primarily dry weather

for the Plains. A spotty afternoon thunderstorm may occur in

the high terrain of Arizona and New Mexico. In the Pacific

Northwest, rain along the coast will spread inland

throughout the day. Elsewhere, it will be mostly dry and

sunny with temperatures below the historical average along

the California coast and in the western Great Basin.
